Logic Pro X Play button freakout
I figured out how to get the Time displayed (Bars alternating w/ SMPTE) so I'm assuming I have the button connected correctly via MIDI ports.
Whenever I press "Play", Logic starts playing, then does a "freakout" where it acts as if it's looping a tiny amount of time. I'm unable to stop this behavior unless I try to close the project and get a "Do you want to Save?" dialog. I click cancel and then can stop the project.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Log attached. (I didn't realize I had to zip it first. I got an error "Uploaded file is not valid: invalid attachment name.")
Thanks,
-G

Cool, thanks. I'll have a look at it.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
My God, that Mackie protocol is so chatty!
This is odd, that log file looks OK! I can see that the Play command is sent, a large number of Time display commands are received and then the Stop command is sent. Everything looks as I expect it to look
I haven't a clue what is going on in Logic. I know that things can look like this if there's a Midi loop configured somewhere but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Is there any configuration in Logic where it can receive itself what it sends on IAC Driver DAW2SD.2? I don't know if that could cause a problem like this, but since I cannot see any protocol problem on the Stream Deck side I'm a bit confused.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
Thanks for taking a look at this for me. For my other control surfaces, I use Mackie Control as the model.
I read somewhere in the setup that it needs "MCU Pro" - is that correct?
I tried both settings and they had the same result - so I'm assuming that's not the main issue.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
The plugin emulate MCU Pro but since the Mackie protocol isn't publicly released, most of the implementation is based on reverse-engineering. It (the plugin) do behave according to all the specs I have found and Logic seems to understand what is sent to it so it can't be a major protocol problem (even if Logic behaves odd)
I just realized there's a trial version of Logic, I'll install that and see if I can reproduce your problem.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
It will take a while. Logic Pro cannot be installed on the MacOS version I have in my virtual Mac so I must upgrade the OS first. It's past midnight here so this will not happen until tomorrow.
Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
OK. I had to create a new virtual Mac, but now everything is in place.
I can reproduce the problem you have but I haven't a clue what is going on. I've attached a Midi monitor to the communication and (still) everything looks OK
When I use the Start/Stop buttons on the Stream Deck I can see that the start and stop commands are sent as they should. Nothing else is sent from the Stream Deck so whatever happens, happens within Logic.
I'm not familiar with Midi configuration within Logic but I'll play around and see if I can find anything.

OK, found it. Unfortunately an update of the plugin is required to fix the problem. I suspect I need to change the default function (Push/Hold/Toggle) for all commands but I have to verify this.
Please bare with me, I might need a day or two to make this a stable update.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
The Play/Stop problem is fixed now and I'm testing some other commands. I'm a bit puzzled by the functionality of the Fast Forward/Rewind buttons.
In Cubase, Rewind (and FF) is a "Hold" thing where Cubase will rewind as long as I press the Rewind button and stop when I release the button.
In Logic, Rewind (and FF) seems to be a "press Rewind once to start rewind, press again to rewind faster, press FF to rewind slower or stop". Is that the expected behavior from a Mackie Control connected to Logic?
Also - can someone tell me how to avoid that the commands on the Midi port to Logic is also routed to midi tracks? Many of the Mackie Control commands are Note On/Off commands and if I have an Instrument Track I can hear that it reacts to incoming midi messages from the "Mackie Control".

Awesome - I'm happy to beta test stuff for you if that is helpful.ÂAdmin wrote:The Play/Stop problem is fixed now and I'm testing some other commands. I'm a bit puzzled by the functionality of the Fast Forward/Rewind buttons.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
I did send the plugin to Elgato yesterday. They test the plugin before publishing it and normally this is a very quick process. I don't know why there's a delay this time, I've send a question but haven't got any response yet.

Ok cool! Will there be some sort of push alert, or if you happen to see it, could you post something here?Â
I wasn't receiving email notifications on this post before, but I got one with your last message. So hopefully I'll keep getting them.
Thanks!

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
The plugin will auto-install once it is published. The first time you open a button in the editor (after update) you will get a popup describing the update.
I also have a post in the Announcements section that I will update when it is released.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
Hello! Thanks for this great plugin! I spent all day today trying to figure out the correct midi routing for a mac and Logic. I finally got to the point where all the information between the plugin and logic seems to be working fine. The problem is that every time I am record enabling a software instrument track, there is constant midi note on/off information passing through the track. The same happens when I hit play or record. The noise stops only when I disarm the software instrument track. I just read there used to be a problem like that in the past before a certain update. Could it possibly be a routing error on my side? The stream deck is doing everything it is supposed to be and the plugin is communicating as it should with logic (I am using mackie control buttons). Thank you!

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
Edit to my previous post: Before I figured out how to do my routing through the IAC Driver (that now works properly, except the midi messages that are triggered), I tried to setup the mackie buttons by routing the midi info via the "MIDI network setup" window and things got pretty crazy. I got exactly the same problems as SoundStudio412 in the initial post of this thread. Then I deleted all the MIDI ports I created in the MIDI network setup window and followed the instructions in your website and used the IAC Driver instead! Maybe all this info could be helpful

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
Hi,
I can't reproduce that problem so it isn't a generic error in the plugin.
Please give me some more info about your configuration. If possible screen shots of your configuration in the plugin (the midi ports) and the Control Surface Setup in Logic. I also think the log file could give valuable info if you enable extended logging, trigger the problem, stop the problem and attach the log file (or include the text from the log file in the post).

Yes sure! This is what I have done so far concerning the virtual MIDI port routing.Admin wrote:Hi,

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
Also here is a log file I generated in a single record button press from the streamdeck which was followed by a space bar press on my computer's keyboard to stop recording. Notes are played through the virtual instrument when pressing record button, but this also happens when hitting play or record on my keyboard. I can't seem to be able to find what's wrong but I am suspecting something might be wrong in my routing.

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
It seems that this is not a problem generated by the plugin itself. It disappears when I turn off the IAC Driver. These MIDI messages are triggered through the computer's keyboard too when IAC Driver is on

Re: Logic Pro X Play button freakout
OK, everything looks alright.
I managed to reproduce the problem when the Daw2StreamDeck port is assigned as input port in Logic. Please check Preferences - Midi - Inputs and verify that Daw2StreamDeck is not selected:
