Midi Port Empty Midi Port

Post by RoyWin Sun Feb 21, 2021 7:41 pm

Hi, I hope you can help me. I have bought Stream Deck XL, and am trying to get it to communicate with Cubase 11. I am running a PC. I have tried to set up a Generic port to show StreamDeck but have been unable to get Cubase to recognise it or Stream Deck to see it. I can't find Loop midi on the selection of installers. My intention is to be able to change articulations etc inside Spitfire Audio and Vienna Symphony Library (and possibly other VST instruments). At the moment, it is not working for me at all. Kind regards, Roy

Hi Roy,

Haven't you been able to install loopMIDI, or what do you mean by "can't find Loop midi on the selection of installers"? It can be installed from here.

For controlling articulation in Spitfire, please look at this post.

If you can't get it to work - please give me some more detailed info, preferably screen shots of your loopMidi configuration and Cubase Midi port setup.

Thanks so much for replying so quickly. Also, thank you for the link to loopMidi which I have now downloaded. I will try to see if I can get it to work. Your previous reply re: Spitfire was very helpful too. I think it might be best if I can get Sream Deck to work with a regular port rather than Generic. If you don't mind, I may well have to refer back to you for more assistance. best regards, Roy

After a great deal of time, I finally have the Stream Deck properly working and with all the Midi ports happily communicating. Thank you for all your help. Regards, Roy

Great cheers

What part of the configuration caused you the most trouble?  I might do a YouTube series with short instruction movies and it's always good to know what other users think is complicated in the installation.

I really do think you have designed and produced a super piece of kit. As I lean more towards being a musician rather than a technician perhaps other people have found it easier than I did. Most importantly, I didn't notice some of the other pages on your site and therefore didn't realise that loopMidi is essential to make it work, and also that you had in fact put helpful notes on how to configure everything (that would have saved me days and RTFM etc).
It would be wonderful to find some pre-configured Profiles that I could incorporate into the XL. I have downloaded the Cubase one but if there are other musician-orientated ones available that would be incredibly helpful. just so that you know, I run the studio on a Windows 10 PC with 128GB ram and Cubase 11PRO as a DAW. Everything is fed into an SSL Matrix2 desk and then to an SSL AlphaLink. Soundcard is RME HDSPe-FX. All out to two ATC 150 studio monitors. I have a variety of VST plugins including virtually all the Vienna Symphony Library and Spitfire Audio products. As I said, I have not really had enough time with the XL to find out how much it could help me with my workflow. I first heard about it seeing a YouTube video by Guy Michelmore at Thinkspace. Anyway, thank you again, your help is greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Roy

By some odd reason, most users of my Cubase, Nuendo and Midi plugins are musicians.. Laughing

I know several users that believed that the documentation was only the first page. I have tried to highlight the fact that the icon in the top left corner is a menu button but I think I need to make it even more obvious in some way. I always have the browser window wide enough to have the menu visible all the time so I was surprised when I heard that people didn't know it was there...

I agree that it would be cool to have more Stream Deck profiles to play with. My hope was that users of this forum would share their profiles but that has not happened (...yet...)
